THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I just bought a new imac and upgraded PS to CS4 and am struggling with a huge learning curve all around, when this black screen crap occurred. Tried to troubleshoot with both Adobe and OnOne technical support (as this occurred when toggling between the plugin app and my regular editng in PS). Of course no one knew what I was talking about. A friend came across your blog and referred me to it. You solved my problem in less than 10 seconds. I am so grateful.

THANK YOU, this was a massive problem for me. Is there anyway to continue to use OpenGL without this happening out of curiosity?

You can try upgrading to the latest drivers for your video card. You need to be sure you have the latest OpenGL drivers installed. If your using a laptop with an ATI Video card you may only be able to get the drivers from your laptop manufacturer. That is, unless you want to hack it. That's what I had to do. I'm using a ATI Radeon X1400. I had to download the drivers from ATI then hack the drivers with a program so that I could install them on my laptop.

You were able to hack together some updated drivers for your X1400? I have the same video card with Dell's Vista drivers. Any tips on how I can use Photoshop with OpenGL (and get better game performance)?

Hi

I have just found this thread I'm using PS CS4 with Vista and I'm using a laptop with an ATI Radeon Mobility X1400 and when I have OpenGL switched on in CS4 and I open an image I get a black window, I see all the thank you messages you have but I can't see the answer please could someone tell me what to do to get over this problem?

Go to “Preferences” then select “Performance” and uncheck “Enable OpenGL Drawing.” This will eliminate the black screen in Photshop CS4.

Thanks mate but I want OpenGL running to use all CS4's features and I have just sorted it out I just updated my ATI card yet again since yesterday and amazingly it's working fine with OpenGL ON
