I recently ran into a major problem after installing Microsoft Vista’s SP1. Shortly after installing, I ran into a problem where Outlook 2007 would crash while closing. Furthermore, when starting Outlook 2007 I would regularly get Word crashing a couple of times on startup. I was get ... Continue reading »

  • I heard about not bad application-repair word 2007 files,
can try to open your report in Microsoft Word format, that you have been preparing for a week, but in vain, tool can recover your data from corrupted *.doc files, located on corrupted media: floppy and CD disks, flash and zip drives, etc,can work with .doc, .docx, .dot and .dotx files and with any version of Microsoft Word text editor.
  • Yes - having same problem as of a few days ago. Brought the machine to a fragmented HALT - it couldn't do anything except run IE7/web browsers.

On my backup machine right now while it is in for repair, and am thankful for this blog/post. Going to try it -
  • Amazing. I crawl up and down all these msdn and expert advice sites with no luck. I happen to run into your blog with just some darn luck and wow... I problem I've been having for months has now been fixed.

  • I'm sorry that you've been having this problem for so long! I'm glad that my post helped you out.
  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Thanks to you my Word 2007 is fixed. It was crazy. I ran several virus scanners and spyware terminators but with no results. It was just all of a sudden I could not open a document from a website into Word. Then Word started crashing when I tryed to close it. then the functionality in Word started to go peice by piece. Anyway it is working just fine now. Again Thank you!

  • Thanks very much for all your work in tracking this down and posting this -- it solved my problem!

I too had this problem after installing SP1. But I believe it actually started happening after Office SP1, which was a few days after Vista SP1 was successfully installed without hurting anything.

The behavior I saw was that Word would not open files by double-clicking on them. The program would open, but the file would not be displayed. If I then used the Open command, I could open a file. However, I could not use scroll bars, and all but the most basic options were disabled. When I closed Word, it would crash every time.

I opened regedit and went to the key you described, but instead of deleting the whole folder I decided to try just deleting the Settings key, leaving the SettingsWordMail and Toolbars keys intact. Voila! Double clicking on files now opens them, I can scroll again, and Word does not crash on exit.

  • I have exactly the same problem but do not have that registry key. Any suggestions?
PLUS my HP printernow does not work. I have to re-install it every day. I have had tech support from Microsoft and HP but all they do is get me to download and re-install patches and updates that just waste my very valuable time!
    Thanks,

  • Thanks a bunch for this. Had same problem - found this webpage and deleting the registry key was the only thing that worked. Much appreciated!!
  • I would recommend the antispyware solution from Search-and-destroy to anyone.
I spent a lot of time searching for a good scanner at an affordable price. I tired many different ones before I found Search-and-destroy Antispyware but when I tired it I was very happy with the results. I would recommend the antispyware solution from Search-and-destroy to anyone searching for a great scan that works just as well as Norton and many of the others that you would pay more for. Visit http://www.Search-and-destroy.com to find out more and to give this scan a try just like I did. I’m sure you will love it as much as I do.
